Glider, Rocker, Recliner?

So, lately I just can't seem to decide what kind of chair to get (ideally) for the nursery. I originally pictured a simple wooden framed glider and ottoman, but recently I've been leaning towards the more comfortable rocking chair/recliners that are nicely padded (but unfortunately 3x's as much money).

Did you use a glider, rocker, or recliner for your babies? I'd love to know your thoughts, comments, opinions and preferences when it comes to the nursery chair option!

  1. OH GOSH!! This question has been the death of me. Honestly. I have been DEAD set on a comfy recliner until recently. The only reason why I like gliders is because they still move if your reclined. NOW, THAT is the best thing about "recliners" is because they recline and if you get a reclining glider?... guess how much!? 500 bucks!!! I saw a wonderful recliner chair on sams club that looked sooo comfy. Another reason to get a glider is because you move with out any effort in your feet or legs where with a recliner you have to work those legs. I am all about comfort. My sis said that her third baby would NOT sleep through the night no matter what unless she was being held so my sis slept in her recliner every night holding baby. My mom also votes for recliners because she says its so much easier to shut your eyes and rest when in a slightly reclined position in the middle of the night while breast feeding. but like I said, I still have NO idea what I want. If i had to choose right this second I would say a comfy recliner.

  2. I didn't know you guys were having a baby! congrats! I have a glider and ottoman, but I got the cheapest one I could find at Target. Its alright, but I suggest if you get one, get the one that is super comfortable for you. The one I REALLY wanted was from Babys r us, and it was expensive, but I wish I had that one instead!

  3. I would keep in mind that babies spit up(some more than others) so you want something that is going to be easy to clean. We have an Eames rocking chair. It's incredibly comfy even though there is no padding and every time our baby spits up all over me and the chair, it's super easy to wipe up.

  4. A recliner does sound nice if you're able to find one you can afford. We were definitely on a budget so we had to get what we could afford. But we were able to find a super comfy glider that we got online (I don't remember where). It's still my favorite place to sit and i absolutely love it. Totally worth the purchase. I think of it as an investment so be picky, but within your price range. It's worth it.

  5. We were definitely on a budget, so we actually have just a plain rocking chair, and that worked for us. But, we do have a rocking recliner in the living room that I sometimes used in the middle of the night. Now, the rocking chair is fine for cuddling while reading a book before her nap, but for times when you could be sleeping in that rocking chair, it wouldn't hurt to have a recliner. If you can afford it, go for it. You'll certainly be able to "make do" with a glider, though.

  6. I love my glider! We still use it a lot and Clara is 2. I do wish the padding was better on mine however. There is something to say about a recliner and being able to lay back but since I didn't have one it forced me to put the baby down in her bed and let me sleep in mine. :)

  7. We have a glider and I have loved it. I wanted a recliner, but it wasn't in the budget. The glider was actually good for us because Boston had reflux so bad he had to be upright for 30-60 minutes after he ate or he would throw up everywhere. If you do get a glider its worth it to get a good one. I think our is a shermag andit is way comfy. Good luck

  8. I would let your budget be your guide! You can always replace it later when you have more moola! I personally wanted a glider, but never got one cuz of finances, and I wish I had. I had many a night (especially when he was sick) where I would sit on the couch rocking him back and forth (just me, no rocker). Believe me, it is an investment that is worth it!!!

  9. If I could go back I would get a comfy recliner instead of the cheap glider we got becasue when babies are first born you spend forever in them feeding them...they take forever to eat. Next baby I will be getting a super comfy recliner that I can sleep in while feeding the baby, becasue believe me you will definately want to to that :)
