If I could choose any career I would be an interior designer/organizer. There is so much to learn, and there are many skills I want to develop as far as design/creating/sewing/crafting are concerned.
I'm becoming more confident in my personal design "style,"
and I really enjoy making our apartment our home.

With limited resources I've had to be a little creative.
Bedding
After 2 years of the same bedding it was time for a change, albeit a very small change. We don't have extra money to spend on new bedding (and it's obviously not a necessity). However, I've been wanting things to be a little more light and airy in our bedroom (and in our whole apartment). We already had a white down comforter, so all I did was get a new focal pillow for $12 and I re-folded our quilt so we see more of the soft green instead of bright orange and navy blue. I'm still looking for a new, lighter bed skirt and rug solution. Our rug is getting destroyed by our desk chair rolling over it every day. I want to find something more durable.

Bedroom Storage Solutions
Since our second bedroom is Curtis' nursery, we had to combine our "office" into our bedroom set-up. We sold our large desk and found a smaller one for $30 at DI (which I still want to paint). However, when we went to the smaller desk we lost a lot of storage space. We also lost space for our books. I finally decided we needed to find a solution. So, I sold our nightstands and got two cheap Walmart bookshelves for $15 each. They fit perfectly on each side of our bed, and, as busy as it may seem, it is a much more practical option for us. We now have all of our books out and easily accessible.

Other Storage Solutions
In our living room we had books and games hiding in drawers and baskets. Definitely not easy to access. My mom had another white bookshelf that she gave us, and we were able to switch things up and make things much more functional. We also had a storage bench, that holds blankets, in the corner of the room (where the bookshelf is now), so we moved it to the "blue wall." Now our blankets are easy to get to. I am soon going to work on making a cushion for the bench, since it's a bit low and not very comfortable. With all of our books, games, and church materials on the new bookshelf, we have space in our entertainment center to store toys and kiddie stuff once Curtis gets bigger. We also added another seat in the living room, since the storage bench can seat two people.

*More Photos to Come (eventually)
I'm ready for different color accents and tones,
so there are a few more design projects on the to-do list:
-Bench cushion
-Lamp Updates
-Couch covers/re-cover
-Re-cover pillows
-Vision Board
-Paint entry mirror
-Paint baby shelf
I love all of the posts with pics of your place. I love getting new ideas, especially with organizing in tight spaces. We will have three little ones in our two bedroom apt and I need all the ideas I can get. Your place looks great! So post more pics as you do new projects:)I have gotten a little lazy with wanting to paint or to anything too great because I know we only have a year left here....
ReplyDeleteIt looks great! It's amazing how different your bedroom looks with just those small changes!
