One Cloudy Day in Portland...

I'm here at our apartment and Mike's off at the morning Pinnacle meeting. I'm really so grateful for his hard-work and for going out every day. There are a lot of people who are just plain rude. He always has some stories at the end of the day of people who say the rudest things to him. I just don't understand how they can be that way and actually feel good about themselves. Come on people, let's have some respect! There are all sorts of negative ideas about salesmen, and for some reason people think that ALL salesmen are the same way--which is ridiculous. No, not all of them are honest or trustworthy, but a great many of them are. I will definitely treat salesmen differently from now on because I know how hard it is sometimes. So many people have forgotten respect. They've lost all courtesy. They don't understand "polite." Ah, it's hard not to get worked up inside when Mike tells me about all the rude people he meets (and on top of that, the words they use are unbelievable). There's a polite way to say no. Perhaps, "I'm not interested. Thank you." What a concept!

Anyways...that is my ranting for the day.

It's cloudy today, which I'm really glad about. These apartments don't have air conditioning, and ours becomes an oven by about 4pm and then bakes us the rest of the night. And you know, I wouldn't really complain so much about it except these places cost nearly $900 a month to rent! $900 for a one bedroom, non-air conditioned, pretty small apartment. They don't have cable (which we don't use anyways), internet, or base boards (Amy, Kelly and Alex know of my love for base boards). Luckily the company pays for most of our rent, but I'm still amazed that a place could cost so much. If we were in Utah we could have a brand new 2 or 3 bedroom condo for $900 a month. Even a small home! Oh no, I've started ranting again...better change the subject.

I applied for a job at Old Navy yesterday. They are hiring for seasonal work, which would be great for the summer. It's funny though...graduated from college and getting a job at Old Navy. Interesting. The application was done completely online (they don't let you apply in person). They asked a bunch of funny questions like showing a picture of some pants and asking "what kind of pants are these?" It was actually a pretty intertaining interview. I'll just never understand the online applications. I'll venture to say that a lot of people would be able to give the "correct" answer. It's not hard to tell what answers an interveiwer is looking for. Then again, maybe it's harder for some people. I don't know. They're supposed to call "qualified applicants" within a week. We'll see what happens.
