Mike came home from school around 12pm and went to the gym a little after that. I was still home sick and trying to find a sub for one last class. He came home at about 1:45 and went to the kitchen to make some lunch. I was now frantically trying to find a sub (I hate just cancelling class). At 2pm I decided I'd just suck it up and go to class and just let my class know I needed to sit down while they danced.
All of a sudden Mike screams (really loudly) from the kitchen! I thought he had burned his hand (he was making baked potatoes). So I run into the kitchen and see him holding a rag on his hand. There's a knife on the counter next to a tub of frozen sour cream (our extra one in the freezer). Turns out he had just stabbed his hand while trying to cut out a piece of frozen sour cream to put in the microwave. I grabbed the knife and saw blood over an inch up the blade. Mike hadn't looked at his hand yet because it was bleeding so much, so I watched as he pulled the rag off to see how bad it was. This is a cleaned up picture of the cut, but it was definitely not a scratch.
We both actually laughed a lot (the story was too funny). However, neither of us had ever had stitches before, or even knew where to go for something like this (and I was freaking out just a little bit at all the blood). So, we decided to run over to Timpanogos Hospital ER and see if he needed stitches or what not. When we got there I realized we should have looked at our insurance card before we left because our copay for ER is $150. Before registering and seeing anyone we decided to leave and go to an urgent care facility instead (only a $30 copay).
We got there and waited about 45 minutes to see someone. The diagnosis was definitely "deep wound," "needs stitches," and almost "needs another tetanus shot." Luckily it hadn't been too long since Mike's last shot so he didn't end up getting another one. The PA got him all fixed up and ready to go.
I was actually glad to be sick that day or I wouldn't have been home to help my honey.
Here are some more of the "fun pictures."
And that was our Wednesday adventure to urgent care!
AAH! So scary. I can't believe you guys were laughing. What's wrong with you?! I'm glad it all turned out okay - and you avoided the big co-pay. Way to think in traumatic situations!
